Quick Answer

Christmas What Changed? is a printable preschool observation and memory game. Children look carefully at ornaments on a Christmas tree, close their eyes, and figure out which one is missing. They take turns hiding an ornament and naming or describing the missing piece.

What’s Included

This three-page PDF includes:

  • A cover with directions, challenge options, and Preschool Vibes Standards.

  • One full-page Christmas tree board.

  • Six removable ornaments with light cutting guides: a round ornament, star, bell, candy cane, present, and mitten.

How to Play

Start with three ornaments on the tree and keep the unused pieces out of sight. After children look carefully, they close their eyes while one child hides an ornament in an opaque bag or container. The remaining ornaments stay in place.

Children open their eyes and name or describe what is missing. Reveal and replace the ornament, then give another child a turn to hide.

Use four or five ornaments when your group is ready. Once the hiding game is familiar, try moving one ornament or swapping two and ask, “What changed?”

Skills Practiced

Careful observation, visual memory, descriptive language, listening, and turn-taking.

Preparation

Print at actual size, laminate if desired, and cut out the ornaments. Keep the tree page whole. Use loose pieces on a tabletop or removable mounting putty for an upright display.
