Sports Directed Drawings
Sports Directed Drawings
Quick Answer
Sports Directed Drawings gives children simple picture steps to follow as they create their own themed drawings. Use the guides during shared drawing lessons, small group instruction, or in your writing center and art area to support following directions, fine motor control, and creative expression.
Description
Help children turn simple lines and shapes into pictures they can feel proud of.
This collection includes 6 drawing guides connected to the theme. Each guide breaks the drawing into small steps so children can build their picture one part at a time.
Model each step on a whiteboard, display a guide for children to follow, or keep the pages in your drawing area for repeated use. Children can follow the steps while making their own choices about colors, details, and the stories behind their pictures.
What’s Inside
Six themed directed drawing guides:
Soccer Ball
Basketball
Football
Baseball and Bat
Tennis Racket
Trophy
Each guide includes a sequence of picture steps. The guides include colored examples. The resource also includes a cover page with teacher directions and connected Preschool Vibes Standards.
Pages are formatted for printing on 8.5 × 11-inch paper.
How to Use
Choose a drawing that connects to your theme, a read-aloud, or your students’ interests.
Give children blank paper and drawing tools. Model one step at a time on a whiteboard or display the matching picture guide. Pause between steps so children have time to look, listen, and draw.
Once the drawing is complete, invite children to color and add their own details. They can add a background, include other objects, or use their picture to tell a story.
Encourage children to share what is happening in their pictures. They can tell you about their drawing, dictate a sentence, or add their own writing as they are ready.
Keep the guides available in your writing center or art area so children can revisit their favorite drawings.
Why It Works
Directed drawing gives children a manageable way to create a picture by working through one step at a time.
Children practice listening, looking closely, and controlling their drawing tools. Following shared steps also leaves room for individual choices, so each finished picture can look different.
