Five Little Pumpkins
Five Little Pumpkins
Quick Answer
Five Little Pumpkins is a preschool poem and drawing resource that brings together rhyming language, counting, and creative expression. Six page options let children color, add details, draw pumpkins, or create a gate while connecting their pictures to a familiar fall poem.
Description
Five Little Pumpkins gives children a simple way to connect a shared poem with their own drawing and creativity.
Introduce the poem during group time, invite children to join in with words and motions, and count the five pumpkins together. Then offer the drawing pages in your writing center, art area, or during small group instruction so children can create their own pictures connected to the poem.
The different page options give you flexibility in how much of the picture is already provided. Children can add faces and details to the pumpkins, draw a gate, draw their own pumpkins, or create the entire illustration alongside the poem.
What’s Inside
This resource includes six page options:
Poem with pumpkins and gate
Poem with pumpkins, gate, and number boxes
Poem with pumpkins so children can draw the gate
Poem with gate so children can draw the pumpkins
Poem only so children can draw the pumpkins and gate
Gate only so children can draw pumpkins without the poem on the page
How to Use
Read the poem together during group time. Invite children to participate with familiar words and motions as they become comfortable with the poem.
Count the five pumpkins together, pointing to each pumpkin as you say one number.
Choose the page options that fit your students’ interests and the amount of drawing space you want to offer. Place them in your writing center or art area with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
Children can color, add faces and other details, or draw the missing parts of the picture. Keep a completed version nearby as a reference while allowing children to make their own choices about how their pumpkins and gate will look.
Revisit the poem throughout your fall activities so children have repeated opportunities to join in, hear the rhyming language, and connect the words to their pictures.
