Description
Number Match Mastery gives children a simple, hands-on way to practice number recognition, quantity matching, one-to-one counting, and visual discrimination.
Each strip focuses on one number from 1-10. Students look at the numeral at the top, then find the four pictures that show the same number. The picture choices include different number representations, helping children understand that the same quantity can be shown in more than one way.
Use this resource during small group instruction, math centers, morning tubs, number review, or independent practice. Students can clip the correct answers, cover them with small manipulatives, or work with teacher support as they count and compare each representation.
What’s Inside
This resource includes number matching strips for numbers 1-10.
Each page includes two number strips. Each strip includes one large numeral at the top and eight picture choices below. Students find the four correct matches that show the same number.
Number representations include tally marks, fingers, dice, and objects in jars.
How to Use
Print on cardstock and laminate for repeated use.
Students look at the number at the top of each strip, then find the four representations that show the same number.
Use clothespins to clip each correct answer, or have students cover the matches with mini erasers, counters, pom-poms, or another small manipulative.
As students work, encourage them to count carefully, compare each picture to the target number, and talk about how they know the quantity matches.
Why It Works
Number Match Mastery helps children understand that numbers can be represented in many different ways.
Instead of only naming a numeral, students are matching the number to quantities shown through fingers, tally marks, dice, and objects. This gives children repeated practice connecting numerals to meaning.
