Name Lights
Name Lights
Name Lights: For this fun, educational activity, you'll need to print the name light page on vibrant colored paper. Once printed, fold the paper along the line and cut out the bulb shapes. The finished cut-out should resemble a pair of bulbs attached together. I typically conduct the 'Name Lights' activity during center time, working with one or two students at a time.
The activity begins with the student counting the number of letters in their name, and then counting out an equal number of paper bulbs. They then write one letter of their name on each bulb. Once all letters are written, it's time to assemble their string of name lights. Open each bulb, place a piece of yarn or string in the crease, and the student can then glue the front and back of the bulbs together. Care should be taken to ensure that the letters are in the correct order, spelling out their name. These personalized name lights can be hung on a classroom tree or any convenient spot in your room. It's a hands-on, visual way to reinforce letter recognition and spelling!"
