Ramp Investigation
Ramp Investigation
Ramp Investigation – Hands-On Science for Preschool
Quick Answer
A tray-based science investigation where preschoolers explore how objects move on a ramp by testing, observing, and changing variables in a simple, hands-on setup.
What’s Inside
Ramp Investigation main sign
6 “Think About It” prompt cards
6 “Change It” challenge cards
Vocabulary strips (movement and ramp words)
Two half-sheet recording sheet options
Real-life ramps reference page (4 examples per page)
Teacher Guide with Preschool Vibes Standards alignment
How to Use
Set up a ramp inside a tray with a variety of test objects. Display the investigation sign and keep vocabulary and prompt cards nearby to guide thinking and conversation. Children test different objects, observe what happens, and modify one variable at a time using the “Change It” cards. The real-life ramps page can be used to introduce the concept and help children connect classroom exploration to everyday environments.
This investigation works well as a science center tray, small group exploration, or extension to a transportation or motion theme.
Why It Works
This resource turns simple materials into meaningful scientific thinking. Children build skills in prediction, cause and effect, comparing attributes, and problem-solving while using academic vocabulary in natural conversation. The modular design keeps the investigation focused and manageable without overwhelming teachers or students.
