Shadow Show & Tell
Shadow Show & Tell
Quick Answer
Shadow Show & Tell is a guided, whole-group activity that combines classic show-and-tell with simple shadow exploration. Learners guess objects by their shadows, building observation skills, vocabulary, and early science understanding—without extra prep or overwhelm.
What’s Inside
A family letter explaining the Shadow Show & Tell activity and requesting a small item that fits in a backpack
A reminder note to send home closer to the activity date
Clear setup and lesson directions so the activity runs smoothly
Files that are Canva editable or can be printed and filled in by hand (Canva is optional)
How to Use
Set up a simple shadow screen using a light source and a sheet or wall. One learner at a time places a mystery object in front of the light while the group studies the shadow and makes guesses. The object is then revealed and briefly shared. Classroom items can be used for anyone who doesn’t bring an object.
Why This Works
Builds observation and descriptive language
Introduces light and shadow in a concrete, hands-on way
Feels special and engaging without being overstimulating
Easy to manage in a whole-group setting
Clear communication with families keeps prep stress low
Shadow Show & Tell works beautifully as part of a light and shadow theme, a science extension, or a special weekly classroom experience that feels fun and intentional.
