Rhyme Time Match gives children a simple, playful way to practice rhyming.

Each rhyming board includes four rhyming picture pairs. Students use the matching picture pieces to find and match the pictures that rhyme. This gives children repeated practice listening for words that sound the same at the end while keeping the activity visual, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate.

The game can be played with teacher support during small group instruction or used more independently as children become more confident with rhyming. It is a helpful way to support preschool rhyming practice while gradually preparing children for more advanced kindergarten-level rhyming activities.

How to Use

Print the rhyming match game materials.

Laminate the boards and picture pieces if you want to reuse them.

Cut out the rhyming pictures from the last two pages. These pieces will be used as the matching game pieces.

Give each child a rhyming board and the corresponding rhyming pictures.

Students look at the pictures on their board and match the game pieces to the correct rhyming pictures.

You can use this activity with support during small group instruction, or allow children to play more independently once they understand how to listen for and match rhyming words.

Prep Tip

Print, laminate, and cut apart the game pieces for repeated use. Store each rhyming board with its matching pieces in a bag, envelope, or labeled container so the game is easy to set up during small groups or centers.
