Meet the Shapes
Meet the Shapes
Quick Answer
Meet the Shapes is a hands-on, multisensory shape introduction resource designed to help children recognize, name, describe, and connect 2D shapes to the world around them. Each shape is introduced through visuals, shape attributes, movement, teacher language, and real-world connections so students understand what the shape looks like and how to describe it.
Description
Meet the Shapes gives you a simple, consistent way to introduce common 2D shapes through clear visuals, attribute language, movement, and real-world examples.
Each shape includes a student-facing visual page and a matching prompt page to guide quick, meaningful instruction. Students are not just naming shapes. They are looking closely at each shape, noticing sides, corners, curves, and points, connecting shapes to real objects, and learning how to explain what makes a shape that shape.
This resource works well for shape introductions, shape review, small group instruction, large group lessons, math centers, or kindergarten readiness practice.

How to Use
Use these pages during large group or small group instruction to introduce each shape. Show the visual page first so students can see the shape, hear its name, look at the real-world picture, and listen to the attribute sentence.
Then use the prompt page to guide quick, engaging practice with shape vocabulary, shape attributes, movement, real-world examples, and discussion.
Display both pages together or print them back to back. You can use the full prompt page for a complete shape lesson or choose one or two sections for a shorter review.
Why It Works
Meet the Shapes helps children move beyond simply memorizing shape names. It gives them the language and visual support they need to describe how they know a shape is a shape.
