Quick Answer

Turn letter practice into a pretend mail route! Children collect uppercase and lowercase letter cards and deliver them to matching mailboxes. Familiar mnemonic picture cues help connect letters with their sounds, making this an easy addition to your letter table, literacy centers, or small-group activities.

What’s Inside

  • 26 mailbox labels covering A–Z, with uppercase and lowercase letters and mnemonic picture cues

  • 208 letter mail cards—eight per letter: four uppercase and four lowercase

  • 4 blank mail cards for extra letters or names

  • Setup directions and multiple ways to play

  • 18 printable PDF pages

Mailbox labels include a wide, 2-inch slot to accommodate the 1.75-inch mail cards.

How to Use

Print at 100% actual size, cut apart, and laminate if desired. Attach mailbox labels to recycled boxes, then have an adult cut out the dark slot through the label and box. You can also use open boxes, envelopes, or baskets.

Start with two or three mailboxes and their matching cards. Children identify each letter, find its matching mailbox, and deliver the mail!

For a letter-of-the-week activity, set out one mailbox and mix its eight cards with cards for other letters. Children deliver the matching mail and place the other cards in a separate bowl. Add more letters as children are ready, or follow your own teaching sequence.

Name the mnemonic picture and practice the letter’s sound as children deliver. Use the blank cards for extra letters or have children write names and deliver them to the mailbox matching the first letter.

Why It Works

A simple delivery game gives children a playful reason to notice letter shapes, recognize uppercase and lowercase forms, and practice letter names and sounds. Picking up and posting the cards also provides fine-motor and hand-eye coordination practice.
