Description

Rhyming Picture Cards gives children repeated, hands-on practice listening for words that rhyme.

Each card includes a picture and word for adult reference, making it easy to guide students as they say the words, listen for matching ending sounds, and find the rhyming pair. The included matching boards help turn the cards into a reusable center or small group activity where children can match two words that rhyme.

This resource works well for whole group modeling, guided small group practice, sensory table activities, pocket chart sorting, memory-style matching, “odd one out” challenges, or independent phonological awareness centers.

What’s Inside

This resource includes:

  • 40 square rhyming picture cards

  • Cards sized 2 x 2 inches

  • 20 clear rhyming pairs

  • Picture and word on each card for adult reference

  • Independent matching boards labeled “These words rhyme”

  • Space on boards for Velcro dots, magnets, or reusable attachments

  • Clean, reusable design for year-round phonological awareness practice

How to Use

Use the cards during large group to model how to listen for rhyming words.

Say two words aloud and have children listen for whether the words sound the same at the end. Match the rhyming pairs together and place them on the “These words rhyme” matching boards.

Use the cards in small group for guided practice, or place them in a pocket chart so children can find and match rhyming pairs.

You can also add the cards to a sensory table with plastic eggs, bins, rice, or other materials for a more hands-on search and match activity.

For independent center play, use the matching boards. Children choose picture cards, say the words, listen for the rhyme, and place matching pairs together.

Prep Tip

Print and laminate the cards and matching boards for repeated use. Add Velcro dots, magnets, or another reusable attachment option to the matching boards if you want children to match and remove the cards independently during centers.

Physical materials such as Velcro dots, magnets, plastic eggs, bins, or sensory table filler are not included.
