Quick Answer

Counting Homework gives families a hands-on way to practice counting during three short playtimes. In “Hide and Count,” children uncover a few household objects, count each one, and tell how many there are altogether. All families need are a few blocks, toy cars, or spoons and a small towel.

What’s Inside

This 3-page PDF includes:

  • A teacher cover page with directions and the Preschool Vibes Standards.

  • A keep-at-home family page with an illustrated example, three game steps, words families can use, a “Did You Know?” paragraph, and three playtime checkboxes.

  • A family signature version with the same activity, plus space for the child’s name, date, and family signature.

How to Use

Send home the version that fits your classroom. Families hide a small group of objects under a towel. Children uncover them, move and count each object once, then answer, “How many are there altogether?” Take turns hiding and counting.

Start with 1–3 objects if needed, then try 3–5. Families can count together, count again, and keep practicing with the same small amounts. Use more objects when the child is ready.

Check one box after each playtime. The keep-at-home page tells families to keep practicing and explains that it does not need to be returned. The signature version asks families to sign and return it after three playtimes.

Preschool Vibes Standards

5B. We can count objects with one-to-one correspondence.
